First a few words about this 70 photo slideshow. Maui was much more remote and mellow
than Waikiki and the North Shore, which is true of most of the other Hawaiian Islands. So the pace of
my vacation slowed down considerably. There were no major metro areas like Honolulu/Waikiki. The major
area of Maui for me, while staying on the Kaanapali coast, was Lahaina, which is a major tourist
draw due to the number of hotels on the NW coast, where I stayed in Kahana. That town is was just
all shops and attractions, like suba diving schools, whale watching tours, etc. I was only in Lahaina
one night to eat (a large pizza cost $25) and do one live web update (a major ordeal). The shopping
was just as attractive as Waikiki, really, but more regional per se. One of the reasons I stayed OUT
of Lahaina was because I could NOT afford to buy anything else!
Also, I did not meet or talk to many people at all on Maui, whereas on Oahu I was always talking
to and meeting lots of locals. The locals in Maui seemed to be pretty burned out on tourists
touring around on the small roads and stopping at every pullout (which I did). So most of the photos
here are going to be scenics. The photographic opportunities on Maui were indeed spectacular and resulted
in some of the most scenic photos I have ever taken. I'll probably say "This is one of my favorites" about
a dozen times...
This first photo is on approach to Maui and I really liked the clouds and land.
