Got up and did a bit of yard work and was fighting with continuing with the yard work, then watching the two football games, and/or going for a surf. I really wanted to see the Patriots/Jets game at 1 p.m., but watched the Bears open up a big lead and wrote that game off, packed up my gear and headed to go for a surf. Pt. Loma buoy has been reading 4 feet at 14 to 17 seconds for three days, with continued epic weather conditions, and that’s what I arrived to see. Repeat of yesterday, four foot, inconsistent, low tide, dry hair, even after paddling out and catching a few waves. I continue to really enjoy taking the Lumix out into the lineup, tethered to my wetsuit and stashed just inside the neckline of my wetsuit over my left pec. It’s actually a decent spot to keep it. I was paddling back out after a wave, casually waiting for a photo opp, and one came about. Someone was taking off on a head high left so I paddled toward the impact zone, slipped off the board, and hit the three photo hi res burst thinking I had snagged a good little sequence. Then I took the wave on the head, with two more behind it, then paddled back outside to review the shots. To my dismay, of course, there’s a huge water drop perfectly obscuring the surfer. I got pissed because I took three waves on the head to get the shot! Not that it was that big a deal, but still. Then a person, of opposite sex, comes up to me and says, “Just huck a big ‘ol loogie on the lens like it’s a snorkel mask and it’ll work fine!” I know of this concept and said that I thought maybe some windshield “Rain-X” might also do the trick. “No, just huck a loogie on it!” she said again. So all the guys are now looking at me, I turn the camera over to the front, look up, with like maybe a half dozen people looking at me, mustered up some spit, and unashamedly spit (not loogied) on the lens and smeared it around, dunked it in the water, and of course, voila, no water droplets on the lens. The outcome was predictable, however, interesting and funny that a chick said “huck a loogie!” to me. Then after the session driving home I was like, that would be a GREAT name to get the blog re-started, kick-started, kicked in the ass. How could I incorporate “Huck a loogie” into the missing theme for 2011? Then as I thought about it, I want the camera and photos to be more a part of the blog than anything else, since everyone thinks I’m full of crap as far as words and descriptions. And then it came to me. Write entries that are 500-600 words, and use photos from the Panasonic Lumix. Then in a flash of near-brilliance it came to me. “The Lumix Loogie.” So this is now called “The Lumix Loogie” aka cliffsrider.com. Because I’ll huck loogies all over the Lumix’s lens, and then I’ll splatter the photos all over this website. Thanks girl! You’re inspiring! “The Lumix Loogie” it is!
